8 Hobbyists On Being Epic & Doing Your Best

“Carpe Diem. Make your lives extraordinary.” This is one of the best lines from the movie, Dead Poets Society. We have the power to be great, if not the best, that we can be. Take it from these Hobbyists. Dare to be epic. And seize that moment when you felt that you shattered your own walls and went for it!

Triathlon got me to be physically active again. Ever since I got in to it, I fell in love with the sport immediately because of the sense of pushing oneself and achieving one’s personal best. I got in to triathlon because my daughter, Isabelle, who started doing Ironkids at the age of 6, after watching her in races, she sort of influenced me to try it out as well.

I have always wanted to do sports, I use to do taekwondo when I was a kid up to brown belt level.

My AHA! moment in triathlon was when I started to feel I was losing weight and I was feeling a lot fitter and getting faster as I went on racing week after week. The adrenaline junkie in me just came out and I was loving every race, every challenge the sport has to offer. From swimming races of 7km, to bike events of 220km, to running the 102km BDM, I felt I was yearning to keep on trying to push myself to the limit. What my body can achieve, by God's grace and protection, I have been able to experience such and I'm looking forward to do more challenging races in the future, as I race for God's glory!

The highpoint of my triathlon career I would say is the full Ironman events that I have joined in. I have done IM Melbourne in 2014 and IM Arizona in 2015. For 2016, by God's grace I will again embark in another Ironman race at IM Barcelona in October. I am also praying about doing the Caramoan 10k marathon swim. This would be one of my major target for 2016. My steps in achieving these are prayers, training and a lot of mental preparation. The support of my loving family, my team, Sante Barley Tri Team & friends motivate me further to go for the goal & give it all I've got! In all of these, it's the love and passion for what you do that will fuel you to be the best that you can be in the sport. To God Be the Glory!
