Sun Life 5150 in Naga City, Cebu sets the stage as the newest playground for both the fastest and the newest of Triathletes

“It all begins with a healthy lifestyle.” - Benedict Sison, Sun Life of Canada (Phils.) Inc.

As the 5150 Triathlon Series finally arrives in Cebu, triathletes can now race in two world-class events close to home.  Event producer and organizer Sunrise Events aims to encourage even more people to adopt a healthy lifestyle. 5150, also knows as the standard triathlon distance  is a great precursor to the IRONMAN 70.3 distance and a a challenging arena for the tried and tested athletes to push themselves without the worry of a long race.

“The distance is still challenging for the novice triathlete and we hope to encourage many individuals to start with this distance. As more and more people seek a healthier lifestyle, triathlon is well positioned to attract many new participants. One way of encouraging this is by offering relays,” according to Wilfred S. Uytengsu, founder of Sunrise Events Inc.

He added, “At the same time, seasoned triathletes will enjoy the standard distance as a way to improve on their speed and add yet another race to their calendar.”

The Event’s Title Sponsor, Sun Life of Canada (Philippines), Inc., shares this sentiment. “Sun Life aims to offer Filipinos more venues to boost their health and wellness pursuits,” said Benedict Sison, CEO of Sun Life of Canada (Philippines), Inc.. “No matter where they are in their fitness journey, Sun Life 5150 will be an enriching experience for them.”

Looking forward to the event is City Mayor, Hon. Kristine Vanessa T. Chiong, as Naga gets to showcase the city as an ideal destination for sports and tourism in the province and the country as a whole. “I wanted to share to you that we have a vibrant community, that’s why we have encouraged the residents of the City of Naga to engage in sports,” she said.

The Sun Life 5i50 Triathlon race will have individual and relay participants kick off the race at the Naga City Boardwalk with a 1.5-kilometer swim then 40-kilometer bike, then a 10-kilometer run with the finish line waiting for them at the St. Francis Assisi Ocean Park. “We want to show that there’s another venue for triathlon outside of the usual places,” said Princess Galura of Sunrise Events Inc. Naga is well-known for its industrial setting, as well as the joyful and resilient Nagahanons.

Racing with the participants are top notch Professionals from Australia, New Zealand, Hungary and Guam.  Sam Betten, a consistent 5150 champion will be challenged by his mates, Mitch Robins, Alex Polizzi and Dan Brown.  The women’s race will see New Zealander, Amelia Watkinson back in the standard distance racing Guam’s 2017 Athlete of the Year, Manami Iijima, and Hungary’s 2016 Athlete of the Year, Anna Eberhardt.

Of course, with all Sunrise Events races, the crowd of cheerers will have their field day with celebrity spotting. Confirmed to race with the participants are Piolo Pascual, Iñigo Pascual and Enchong Dee.

A special prize awaits the added Cebu Team Challenge, presented by TriLife Magazine. The participants will have to form a team of five of its best age-groupers regardless of gender to be able to join the challenge.

As with all Sunrise Events, a CSR activity will be conducted after the race, participated by the event partners, the local government unit, and the Professional Athletes.
